De Willard, Willard Agri-Service Founder, Passes Away
De Willard, founder of Willard Agri-Service, passed away recently, leaving behind a remarkable legacy in agriculture and community involvement. Born in Poolesville, Maryland, he launched his agricultural career in 1948 with a custom farming business. This entrepreneurial spirit led him to establish Willard Chemical Co. (later Willard Agri-Service) in 1970.
His company became a major agricultural retailer in the mid-Atlantic, known for delivering innovative solutions and exceptional service to growers.
Willard was deeply involved in the agricultural community, serving on boards for various organizations, including The Fertilizer Institute and the National Fertilizer Solutions Association. He also valued community and civic engagement, contributing to local organizations and educational boards.
A lifelong innovator, Willard embraced aviation later in life, using his skills as a pilot to manage his business more efficiently. His contributions to agriculture earned him and his family numerous accolades, including induction into the Maryland Governor's Agriculture Hall of Fame in 2023.
